Completion of the "House of Light"

August 9, 2021

The team of Noe Partium is sending an urgent request for support, as sharply rising building material prices are threatening the completion of the "House of Light."

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am very happy that the construction of a residential home, which we call the “House of Light,” is progressing quickly. A long-awaited dream is coming true. But I am also reaching out with a big request: we can only complete the construction with your help.

In 2015, a dedicated group founded the association "Noe Partium" to support the development of people with special needs. To foster their growth, they are entrusted with responsibilities that take into account their physical, cognitive, and emotional needs. Family members and staff are also actively involved.

Thanks to diverse support, we were able to open the “House of Smiles” as a day care center in 2017. Since then, we have been able to bring a smile to the faces of 12 people with disabilities every day.

We have achieved a lot: we have gained the continuous support of government agencies such as the municipality and city administration, as well as private organizations. A major milestone was the official recognition by the Ministry of Social Affairs as a facility for people with disabilities, which we received this year. The handcrafted products made at the "House of Smiles" using various techniques have been recognized by the city administration as "Satu Mare Handicraft Products." This is an important step toward the integration of people with disabilities. They are no longer just “people in need of help,” but equal and valuable members of society.

Additionally, a book has been created in which one of our residents shares her advice on autism. We also regularly organize camps and excursions.

Furthermore, the “House of Smiles” is being expanded with three new rooms to create additional activity opportunities. To finance this, we have applied for funding from the Rural Development Fund in collaboration with the municipality of Mikola.

Construction of the “House of Light” was able to begin in mid-year. In a peaceful environment, it will provide space for at least ten people with disabilities and three volunteer helpers. Work has been ongoing day and night on the property provided by the municipality. Equipped with five double rooms for people with disabilities, three rooms for staff, and a kitchen, the house will be 428 m² in size. Alexa, Kriszta, Mónika, Erica, Erzsi, Anamária, Márti, István, and Sebi will live in the "House of Light."

Existing funding (total €191,460):

  • Large donation from an anonymous donor: €150,000
  • German Dental Association: €33,000
  • Private donations: €8,460

Local contractors are also supporting the project by offering significantly discounted prices for materials such as concrete, electrical installations, and free transportation.

Despite this overwhelming generosity, for which we are immensely grateful, the project has run into difficulties. The drastic increase in raw material prices has led to much higher costs than originally calculated.

According to our latest estimates, we are still €64,340 short to finance the construction.

We are therefore asking for support to complete and open the "House of Light."

This house will not only provide accommodation for people with disabilities but also offer young people the opportunity to engage in voluntary work. Through these experiences, they may discover their profession—or even their true calling—by working with people with disabilities.

With endless gratitude for every donation received.
